'Boozing' Broad apologises to ECB for skipping sponsor's event

A booze session with wicket-keeper Matt Prior led England fast bowler Stuart Broad to apologise to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for skipping sponsor's event.

There were reports that Broad returned late to the hotel, and thus, was unable to attend the event to launch the New Zealand series.

The fast bowler, however, said he woke up with a migraine, and insisted he was not on England duty, but still apologised to the ECB, the BBC reports.

He added that it was not as bad as it was being portrayed.

Broad said the England team did not need that, especially after what they have had to face in the wake of Andrew Strauss shutting the door on Kevin Pietersen for the summer.

The first Test of the series against New Zealand will commence at Lord's on Thursday.
