Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea crashed out of the Wimbledon after tasting defeat in the third round of the men's doubles event here on Monday.
The sixth seeded Indo-Romanian pair failed to capitalize on their strong start and eventually went on to lose a hard-fought battle 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-8 against 10th-seeded pair of Henri Kontinen and John Peers in three hours.
In the men's singles event, fifth seed Kei Nishikori was forced to retire midway during his fourth-round encounter with Croatia's Marin Cilic after struggling with a rib injury.
Nishikori was struggling with his serve and movement as he called for a doctor twice on court before eventually retiring from the match at 6-1, 5-1 down.
