Commenting on the Border Cooperation Agreement signed between India and China in Beijing last year, Army Chief General Bikram Singh said the agreement aims at ensuring peace and tranquility at the Line of Actual Control.
Addressing his annual press conference, General Singh said, "We had the Border Cooperation Agreement signed last year. This agreement aims at enhancing the confidence building measures and strengthening the existing mechanism to ensure better understanding and there is peace and tranquility on the border."
"The agreement also ensures that additional lines are created and moves ahead with military to military cooperation along the LAC. It is going to enhance the understanding at the LAC," he added.
"Our endeavor is to move ahead in earnest to make sure that there is thorough and better understanding in our relations. We maintain peace and tranquility to enable the strategic and national initiatives to fructify and consolidate," he said.
In October last year, India and China had signed an agreement on border defence cooperation along with several other pacts to focus on strengthening of relationship.
The agreement on border defence cooperation was signed by Defence Secretary R.K. Mathur and Lt. Gen. Sun Jianguo, Deputy Chief of General Staff, PLA. This agreement is sought to be an additional confidence building measure to ensure peace and tranquility on the border.
