Former Australian captain and team selector Allan Border has said that Australia has regained their momentum and 'turned the corner' in the Ashes, adding that the side would have won the third Ashes Test if not for the weather.

According to Sport24, England retained the Ashes when the third Test ended in a draw on Monday after bad weather halted play at Old Trafford, with Australia in a commanding position.

The report further said that Australia narrowly lost the first Test by 14 runs before a demoralising 347-run defeat in the second Test.

With two matches left to play in the current series, and the return series starting Down Under in November, Border said that England has reason to be worried as Australia has gained back their momentum and will continue to play in the same way for the next few months, adding that there was no doubt that Australia would have won at Old Trafford had the rain not arrived.

According to Border, England was playing catch-up cricket from day one in the Ashes, going slow with over rates and doing everything they could to negate Australia's chances of winning, adding that the hosts were saved by the rain at the end of the day.

Border further said that Australia would gain confidence from its latest effort and 'keep the momentum rolling' into the last two Tests, adding that he would not be surprised if Australia does well in the final two Tests of the series in England and continue to show that fight before the next series.

Border led Australia out of its mid-1980s slump to win the 1989 Ashes and begin 16 years of domination over England, the report added.
