Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas followed up his victory in Austria last weekend as he fended off team-mate Lewis Hamilton to emerge as the fastest driver in the opening practice session of this weekend's British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit on Friday.

The Finnish driver, who clocked his best lap of one minute and 29.106 seconds, was less than a tenth of a second faster than Hamilton, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, Red Bull was Mercedes's closest rivals, with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo making third and fourth finish, respectively.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth quickest ahead of his team-mate and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel is currently leading the drivers' championship standing, with victories in China, Spain and Canada.
