Trent Boult sparked a West Indies batting collapse with test-best figures as New Zealand broke their year-long winning drought in spectacular fashion in Wellington today, according to reports.

According to Stuff.co.nz, New Zealand secured victory in the second cricket test by an innings and 73 runs at the Basin Reserve after skittling West Indies for 193 and 175 before the end of the third day.

It was New Zealand's first win under captain Brendon McCullum in 11 tests this year, with their previous test victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo in November last year, the report said.

McCullum said he never envisaged the test ending in such a hurry when they arrived this morning, the report added.

Boult, meanwhile, said it was the best he'd felt in his 19-test career, the report mentioned.

It was also the Black Caps' first test win at home in nearly two years, since they beat Zimbabwe in Napier in January 2012, the report further said.
