West Indies star batsman Carlos Brathwaite has offered his sympathy to shattered England all-rounder Ben Stokes, whose last over saw the Caribbean batsman hitting four consecutive sixes to steer his side to their second World Twenty20 title at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

A devastated Stokes was left squatting on the ground, his head in his hands, after he failed to replicate his death-bowling heroics displayed during clashes against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, in the high-octane finale.

Describing Stokes as an 'absolute legend' in his own way, Brathwaite pointed out cricket is a cruel game and that one should not forget the contribution he had made for the country in past couple of months, Sport24 reported.

Brathwaite, who smashed 34 off mere 10 balls, also revealed that one of his four consecutive sixes that took the game away from England in the last over was a 'mis-hit'.

Insisting that he had followed his partner Marlon Samuels' advice to swing for the hills, Braithwaite said that he had miscued the third one, but added that a 65-metre six and a 94-metre six were still six runs.

With the win, West Indies have also become the only side to win the coveted crown twice.
