Brazilian football legend Pele confirmed that he has recovered and doing well, while making a funny statement that he is preparing for the Rio Olympics after his release from hospital in Sao Paulo.

Pele was discharged yesterday after being admitted to undergo treatment due to a urinary infection in Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital. Attending a press conference, he thanked his doctors who took care of him, adding that it was a real fight and was not afraid to die.

He also joked that he would be preparing for the Olympics, adding that three professionals could play in the Olympics and he is one of them, the BBC reported.

Pele further said that it was gratifying for him to know that he had support of people around the globe praying for his betterment, adding that he received messages from China, Pakistan and from almost all the European countries.

Earlier, Pele released a video message confirming that he has recovered, while thanking his fans for the prayers and wishes.

Widely regarded as the finest player to play the game, Pele had an operation to remove kidney stones earlier this month.

Pele won three World Cups as a player and has been named Football Player of the Century by FIFA, Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and a national treasure by Brazilian government.
