Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday labelled the NDA Government as breaker of all promises made during the 2014 general election, while extending his sympathies to jute mill workers here.
Promising to raise their issues in Parliament, Gandhi said, "Not only jute mill, but all the promises that were made, every single one of them, has been broken. I saw with my own eyes how the jute mill
workers live, they are living with great difficulties, the situation is very serious, it. We will raise this issue in the Parliament"
Addressing the jute mill workers, Gandhi said development in West Bengal would not gather pace so long as the Congress was not administratively in charge.
"First, the Left Parties applied the brakes, and now the Trinamool have done the same. As long as the Congress doesn't come (to power) in West Bengal, development won't speed up," he said.
The jute industry in West Bengal is facing a crisis due to frequent lockouts and the closure of mills have become common in recent times. The jute trade is centered mainly around Bangladesh and the Indian State of West Bengal. The major producing country of jute is Bangladesh, due to its natural fertile soil. There are approximately 60 jute mills in the state, as per reports.
