British artist Denimu has immortalized F1 legend Ayrton Senna in his trademark denim artwork to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the champion's death.
The influential artist, whose real name is Ian Berry, used scraps of denim jeans donated by the family of the late three-time world champion to create an image for a piece commissioned by the Ayrton Senna Institute, the Mirror reported.
Huddersfield-born Berry, who was only 10 in 1994 and remembers playing a racing game where they all wanted to be Senna, said that in later life he realised that the F1 star was an icon that transcended the sport of motor racing and is one of the greatest icons of the 20th century and his legacy lives far into the 21st.
Berry added that Senna, who died in a crash while leading the field during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, looks proud, as well as showing he had something on his mind in the artwork.
Berry continued that he toyed long and hard about his frown, which is very strong on this piece but in most of the images of him he has that, so the artist went with it and celebrated it.
The portrait was unveiled at the institute on 5th November ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix which takes place on November 9.
