British gymnast Beth Tweddle has reportedly announced her retirement on the anniversary of her spectacular performance on the uneven bars at 2012 London Olympics, for which she won the bronze medal.

According to the Daily Star, Tweddle joins Olympic superstars including cyclists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, swimmer Rebecca Adlington and sailor Sir Ben Ainslie in retiring post the London event.

Stating that the decision was a hard one for her, Tweddle, who has also won in the British TV show Dancing On Ice, admitted that even though gymnastics will continue to be a big part of her life, she has been too busy on other projects to keep up her training.

Tweddle further said that she cannot commit to the hours and training to remain at the very top, along with her commitments.

Tweddle will now concentrate on the Beth Tweddle Academy, based at a school on the new residential development at the east London Olympic Village, the report added.
