The leader of the UK Independence Party (Ukip) Nigel Farange has said that he does not think Andy Murray should be given knighthood for winning Wimbledon, adding that a 26 year old should not receive one in the middle of his career.

According to the Daily Express, Farage posted on his Facebook page about his opinion, even as Prime Minister David Cameron said that he could not think of any one else more deserving than Murray to receive the honour after he ended Britain's 77-year wait for a male Wimbledon singles champion.

The report said that even the Scot player himself had modestly admitted that he was not sure if he deserved a knighthood after he claimed his second Grand Slam, adding that it was a nice thing to be offered.

The player had visited Number 10 Downing Street yesterday after his historic triumph to meet with David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband, the report added.
