Carry a fire extinguisher around as Brit markets will soon be burning with a chilli, which is 286 times hotter than a jalapeno.

The fiery Komodo Dragon is so strong that it is being sold in tiny packs to reduce the alarming risk of "mouth burn" and even the spiciest food lovers are advised to handle it with great precaution, the Daily Star reported.

It has a "super hot five chilli" rating, measures an eye-watering 1.4 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU) on the chilli pepper scale and is 20 times hotter than cayenne pepper.

Every 15g pack has been priced at one pound.

The Komodo Dragon, which is harvested in Blunham, Bedfordshire, is said to have a 10-second delay before it sets mouths on fire, and Eleanor Mansell, chilli buyer at Tesco which is stocking the fiery monster, said it was only for connoisseurs who are experienced in eating really superhot food.

Chilli expert Salvatore Genovese, who spent 15 years perfecting the Komodo Dragon to thrive in the British climate, said that while it had gained popularity in the last 10 years, it was the really hot ones that gain the most interest.

The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is the world's hottest chilli measuring 2 million SHU and is twice as fiery as the previous record holder the Bhut Jokolia or Ghost Pepper from Bangladesh which is just over 1 million SHU.
