A robber who used plastic bag as a disguise while attempting to rob a shop in St Austell, Cornwall in September 2012, was to two years in jail at Truro Crown Court on June 14.

Jamie Neil from Bethel, aged 44, might have thought that the bag would conceal his identity, but the store's cameras clearly captured pictures of his face and he was arrested two days later by an off-duty cop - who instantly recognised him in the street from CCTV footage, the Sun reported.

Detectives have branded Neil's disguise "ridiculous".

Neil's accomplice Gareth Tilley, 20, camouflaged himself well by using a scarf tied around his face.

But he too ended up doing similar stupidity when his mobile phone, which he pretended as a gun, rumbled when the keypad lit up.

Both the crooks threatened the shop's cashier, Kim Clowes, demanding all the money but the courageous shop assistant raised the alarm and wrestled with Neil.

During the fight Neil head-butted the assistant and the pair fled, taking a bottle of spirits with them.

Tilley received two years in a Young Offenders' Institute in November of last year.
