A British court on Tuesday rejected WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's legal attempt to cancel his UK arrest warrant, according to The Independent.

On January 11, Assange (46) was given Ecuadorian citizenship after he spent more than five years living in their embassy in London.

The country's foreign minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa confirmed that Assange was "naturalised" as an Ecuadorian on December 12 at his request.

He was granted political asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy about five-and-a-half years ago when Swedish prosecutors were investigating sex crime allegations

against him.

The investigation was later dropped, but Assange had refused to leave the embassy fearing his arrest.
