An online petition seeking to cancel or downgrade U.S. President Donlad Trump's visit to the United Kingdom has been formally disposed by the British government.
CNN quoted the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as saying in a statement issued on Tuesday that the government "recognises the strong views expressed by the many signatories of this petition, but does not support this petition."
The statement further described the invitation by Prime Minister Theresa May to Trump as a reflection of the relationship between the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The petition, which attracted over 1.8 million signatures, said that Trump should not be invited to make an official State Visit as it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.
The petition came after Trump had imposed a travel ban on nationals from seven Muslim countries.
However, the final date for the Trump's visit is yet to be confirmed.
