Swansea City defender, Neil Taylor, who is the only British-Indian player currently featuring in the English Premier League (EPL), has revealed the reasons why India lacks players who can play football on an international level.

Taylor, whose mother is from Kolkata in India, said that he had been to India last year to discover about Kolkata Goal, an initiative between the police and the local people, and find if there were any players with talent, as there must be at least one.

According to the Gulf News, Taylor said that looking at the population in India there is got to be players who can play at a high level, but he added that education being the number one priority for people in India as all parents drilling their kids to be education-based, with their dreams put to one side, is one barrier that prevents them from becoming world class footballers.

Taylor said that there has to be a mentality change in the people in India, adding that he does not feel that athleticism comes into it as when one looks at the Olympics, they do not see it littered with players from India.

Taylor said that he would not have made it as a footballer had it not been for his parents, because every footballer on the pitch is unlikely to make it if their parents did not play a part in their making it to be a professional in the sport.
