A British man is reportedly at the centre of another Australian sports betting probe following his arrest last week at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium where the Melbourne Renegades were playing the Sydney Sixers in a Big Bash League match.
The 29-year-old man, who had a laptop computer with him at Etihad, was interviewed and released, days after another UK man faced court accused of corrupting a betting outcome at the Australian Open tennis tournament.
According to News.com.au, more than 600 million dollars have been wagered on the BBL this season, although last month, Cricket Australia (CA) had established a centralised integrity unit, after a review of the sport's anti-corruption systems.
The report mentioned that watching games live, rather than via a slightly delayed television broadcast, gives clients the opportunity to bet before odds are adjusted, and provides bookmakers with a chance to change their market as soon as possible.
Last week, British national Daniel Dobson was arrested at the Australian Open and accused of transmitting play data ahead of the TV broadcast using a device stitched into his pants, and he was the first person in Australia to be charged under Victoria's new sports integrity laws.
But Sporting Data Ltd, which employs Dobson, has denied doing anything illegal, the report added.
