British press slams 'selfish' Pietersen over Carberry's wicket loss in third ODI against Oz

The British media has reportedly slammed England batman Kevin Pietersen for showing another aspect of his 'selfishness' after being involved in a 'terrible' run-out with teammate Michael Carberry during the rain-washed third one-dayer against Australia.

The England opener, playing in just his third ODI, was run out in the first over at Edgbaston after being called through for a 'suicide single' by Pietersen.

According to News.com.au, even though Carberry did not seem interested in a run, Pietersen kept going in what seemed to be an attempt to ensure that he was not the one to lose his wicket, an action which made England down a wicket inside the first over.

Although the incident did not impact the result as the match was abandoned due to rain, the report said that the British media, with whom Pietersen has had an often fractious relationship, slammed the batsman, with Daily Mail saying that 'poor' Carberry was 'done in cold blood' due to a 'horrific piece of running' from Pietersen.

The Telegraph also criticised Pietersen, saying that the player's mentoring role towards the new players in the side 'clearly extends only so far'.
