The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is widening 115 kilometres of arterial roads that connect to remote villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua District.

It is expected that these projects will provide relief to hundreds of villages and their residents.

BRO officials were conducting inspections in the district and reviewing existing road conditions before revamping work in these areas start.

"This decision has been taken so that we reduce the problems of the villagers by expediting the construction work of the roads in superior quality. I would like to assure everyone on behalf of my department that high quality roads, constructed in a time bound manner would be delivered," said Omesh Chander Mehta, Chief Engineer, Project Sampark, BRO.

The widening and construction of nearly 115 kilometre of border road has started from Parmanand area in Punjab, which will be connected to R.S Pura in Jammu.

The road construction would also include the building of nearly 250 culverts and four big bridges on several streams and rivers like the Ujh, Bhaga Nullah , Tarnah Nullah and Bei Nullah.

"The widening of roads will help buses and traffic crossing through the villages ease. People will also benefit if the construction is speeded up," said Bashir, a local resident.

Surrounded by the grasslands, the picturesque view of the region is ruined by poor roads making it difficult for tourists to visit the area.
