Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed 353.83 points down today to stand at 27,512.26.
The National Stock Exchange (Nifty) closed 108.55 points down to stand at 8,353.80.
Rajesh Exports Ltd., Cadila Healthcare Ltd., Infosys Ltd. and HCL Technologies Ltd. were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.01, 4.44, 3.39 and 3.19 percent respectively.
The top losers of Group A included Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd., Vedanta Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, with decreases of 8.96, 8.03, 7.56 and 7.26 percent respectively.
The auto sector was down 458.46 points at 18,960.37. The banking sector is down 644.35 points at 20,711.77. The realty sector was down 77.20 points at 1,347.43.
The Indian currency, however, was up 1.03 percent at Rs.64.85 per dollar.
