The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Monday denied having an official Twitter account amid reports of them tweeting out a picture, showcasing support for a joint opposition and also having party supremo Mayawati's arch rival and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on it.

The picture was taken from a verified account of the BSP (@BspUp2017), which the party has refused to own.

"Any poster generated on the Twitter on the working of the party does not carry credibility as there is no official twitter handle. The BSP condemns the tweet," the BSP said, in an official statement.

The poster that went viral on Sunday called for a united opposition for the society's sake.

It had Mayawati in the lead and showed icons of opposition party leaders, Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, Sharad Yadav, West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi.

The poster further said, "One step towards social justice - Unified effort of the Opposition."

The talks of a 'joint opposition' picked pace soon after JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar snapped ties with the RJD and the Congress, and stepped down from his chief ministerial seat in Bihar only to be sworn-in as the chief minister again the next day, this time in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Veteran Sharad Yadav declared that he was still with the 'mahagathbandhan', including the RJD and the Congress.

Another wagon was added in the midst of Bihar's ongoing battle, when Yadav held a three-day Jan Samvad Yatra to discuss the repercussions of the withdrawal of the grand alliance in the state, adding that the 'faith' of 11 crore people of Bihar was 'broken'.
