Buddhist monks in Bihar's Bodh Gaya District have offered special prayers and lit 10,000 candles for world peace.
They also emphasised on the importance of knowledge.
The Mahabodhi Society of India took up the initiative during a three-day-festival that marks the seventh anniversary of the establishment of Jaishree Mahabodhi Mahavihara temple. The festival ends today.
Candles and earthen lamps were decorated in the temple in front of the statue of Lord Buddha. Monks were seen lighting candles in the temple.
"Lamps are a symbol of knowledge. That is why we, and different people, lit 10,000 candles. We wish that people without knowledge are given knowledge and there is world peace," said a monk, Bhante P.Sivli Thero.
The festival was attended by followers from across the world who lit candles and prayed along with the monks for peace.
