Buddhist monks from various countries took out a peace march in Bihar's Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment.
Monks from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Bhutan and Bangladesh participated in the journey that resolved to spread peace in India and the world.
"The resolve is to spread peace in India and the world, genesis of humanity in people's heart and end of sorrow and trouble of people," said a monk, Bhante Kushalchit.
Buddhist scriptures describe Bodh Gaya as the 'Navel of the Earth', where pilgrims and tourists from Sri Lanka, China, Japan and the entire of southeastern Asia throng to this holiest of Buddhist shrines every year.
Historians say Lord Buddha had meditated without food for six years at Dungeshwari hill at Bodh Gaya prior to attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
Around 11 km northeast of the Mahabodhi Temple, the Dungeshwari caves are known as Prag Bodhi or pre-enlightenment hill in Buddhism.
