McLaren driver Jenson Button has denied speculations that he will miss next week's Spanish Grand Prix despite pulling out from a triathlon race.
Button was reportedly competing amongst the leaders after the 1.9 km swim and 90 kilometre cycle race at the Canary Islands but pulled up half way through the 21.1 km run and failed to finish, prompting speculation he would not compete in the fifth round of the Formula 1 world championships in Barcelona on May 11.
However, the Mirror reports that although he pulled out of the race after his illiotibial band (ITB) started playing up, he is fit for the Spanish event, with McLaren also confirming his denials.
ITB injuries are common among regular runners and the report added that a ligament running from thigh to hip to shin and can rub on bone, often causing pain on the outside of the knee and swelling which is usually gone within hours.
