Cabinet apprised of India-France MoU on energy conservation

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and France in the field of energy efficiency/energy conservation which was signed on October 17 this year.

The MoU is a Science and Technology agreement which involves knowledge exchange and cooperation in the nature of technical assistance only.

The agreement is expected to take forward information exchange on policies, programmes, and technologies relating to enhanced energy efficiency and demand-side management.

The MoU will lead to awareness creation on energy efficiency, development of tools for collection, use, and analysis of CO2 emissions and GHG data for tracking global emissions for INDC.

 

Furthermore, it will promote Research and Development, and demonstration of energy efficient technologies and development of sustainable mobility with a specific focus on electric transport. (ANI)

The Cabinet was also apprised of an MoU between India and Tajikistan on peaceful use of space technology for development, which was signed on October 8 this year during President Ram Nath Kovind's visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

This MoU shall enable pursuing potential interest areas of cooperation such as remote sensing of the earth; satellite communication and satellite-based navigation; space science and planetary exploration; use of spacecraft and space systems and ground system; and application of space technology.

The MoU would lead to set up a joint working group, drawing members from DOS/ISRO and the State Committee of Land Management and Geodesy of Republic of Tajikistan, which will further work out the plan of action including the time-frame and the means of implementing this MoU.

The signed MoU will provide impetus to explore newer research activities and application possibilities in the field of remote sensing of the earth, satellite navigation, space science and exploration of outer space.

The MoU would lead to the development of joint activity in the field of application of space technologies for the benefit of humanity. It will lead to setting up of a Joint Working Group, which will further work out the plan of action including the time-frame and the means of implementing the provisions of this agreement.

On reviewing the proposal for Space technology cooperation possibilities with Tajikistan, Tajikistan side has expressed interest in availing customized training programme for its officials on Land resources management/Agricultural resources management and Disaster management support.

Accordingly, ISRO's Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (MRS) has offered short-term training courses for 60 officials (three batches) from Tajikistan under MEA's ITEC programme during July -December 2017.
