The Union Cabinet Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a scheme for the strengthening of Transmission and Distribution (T-D) in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. This scheme will come under a new Central Sector Plan Scheme of Ministry of Power.
Coming up at a cost of Rs 4754.42 crore, the move was necessary as only five of the 20 districts in Arunachal Pradesh are connected to the transmission network. Due to the low population density of the state and the scattered power demand, the Cabinet felt it necessary to provide connectivity of 132 KV in the state for proper voltage management and to lower distribution losses.
