The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Shashi Kant Sharma, has ordered audit of the flood control measures and the drainage system in the national capital on a priority basis.
The CAG audit will look into different schemes implemented by the Delhi Government for flood control and drainage system. It will cover the period ending March 2013.
The CAG will look into the Delhi Government's survey to identify the vulnerable areas and corrective actions that have been taken to deal with such situation.
The auditors will inspect the working of response mechanism in the government to meet the unforeseen situation arising from floods and water logging.
The CAG will also look into the mechanism to coordinate working of various departments like Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Flood Control Department, Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
Heavy rains always cause massive traffic jams in Delhi due to water logging, thereby reflecting lack of preparedness by the civic bodies.
