The affected flat owners of the Campa Cola compound on Friday blocked Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) officials from entering the premises and demolishing the illegal floors of the Worli compound.

The officials had to return from the compound after they were blocked by the residents from entering the premises.

Earlier today, worried residents performed a fire ritual, ahead of a possible face-off between them and the BMC officials.

The BMC was supposed to begin the building's demolition today, by disconnecting power, water and gas supplies to all illegal flats.

The BMC had earlier given a May 2 deadline to the residents. Residents had then stood their ground and did not move out.
