Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday underscored that he could only sanction the farmer loans in the state after the Congress' approval.

Speaking at a meeting with farmers association and organisations in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy said, "Not the blessing of people, but only with the blessing of Rahul Gandhi we've come to power. I'll convince Congress party, but I can only take decision once they approve."

"This is golden opportunity, use it. When it's time for elections, you can vote for anyone..We know politics and how to run a government. Give me time, we'll solve all your problems. But I need time, we'll work together," he told the farmers.

Waiving farmers' loan was one of the main focuses of Kumaraswamy's campaign in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

He took oath as the 24th chief minister of Karnataka on May 23, marking the beginning of the JD(S)-Congress alliance in the state.

Ever since Kumaraswamy took over the chair of the chief minister, he has maintained that he was indebted to the Congress and not the people of Karnataka.

He also said that he is dependent on the Congress party and cannot do anything without its permission.

"I am at the mercy of the Congress party. I am responsible for the development of the state that is different. I have to do my job as a Chief Minister," Kumaraswamy had told the media.
