President Pranab Mukerjee on Wednesday reminded the nation that core values of diversity, tolerance and plurality must be kept in mind and cannot be forgotten at any cost.

"We cannot allow core values of India's civilisation to be given a slip. Despite aggression after aggression our civilisation has survived because of our core values. We have progressed a lot, but a lot more needs to be done," President Mukherjee said at a book presentation function here.

The President's statement comes in the wake of a man lynched to death in Dadri over allegd possession of beef.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier condemned the incident and warned that rabble-rousers will not be tolerated and anyone found to be indulging in communal activities would not be spared.
