President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said the plural character of the country can't be substituted with uniformity, adding the straightjacket uniformity, even if imposed, won't succeed.

"Can't substitute India's plural character with uniformity; straitjacket uniformity, even if it's imposed, won't succeed," he said.

Mukherjee said the parliamentary freedom must not be used for causing disruptions. "Disrupting Parliament had become a habit of late."

They also accused the Prime Minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of informing their close ones on the demonetisation scheme even before it was announced.

The Lok Sabha was on Friday disrupted again witnessing two adjournments before noon, and being adjourned for the day with ruling and opposition members sparring over the demonetisation issue.

The ruling party members were aggressively blaming the opposition for wasting people's money by not letting Parliament function and asking them to go to Jantar Mantar for a dharna.

Ever since the winter session of Parliament began on November 16, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have been repeatedly adjourned, as both ruling and opposition MPs have squabbled over PM Narendra Modi's November 8 decision to scrap high value currency notes.
