Canada's Governor General David Johnston will be on a week-long visit to India from February 22 to March 2 at the invitation of President Pranab Mukherjee.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Johnston will hold discussions with President Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will also call upon the visiting dignitary.

Johnston would be accompanied by his wife, Sharon Johnston, and he is likely to interact with Indian and Canadian businesses, and with Indian innovators.

The delegation, accompanying Johnston, is likely to include representatives from government, business and academia. The delegation is expected to visit Agra, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

This will be the first visit by a Canadian Governor General since 1998, and this visit follows the successful state visit of the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in November 2012.
