Sections of the Canadian media have reportedly accused an interviewer of sexism after she asked a question related to dating to teenager Eugenie Bouchard after the Canadian's quarter-final victory over Ana Ivanovic in the Australian Open.

Former British tennis player Samantha Smith, who is working for Channel Seven, asked Bouchard who would she date, to which the world number 31 answered that her ideal date would be fellow Canadian and pop sensation Justin Bieber.

According to Fox Sports, Smith's question came under fire from the Canadian media, with the Globe quipping that Bouchard's dating Bieber is more important than the fact that she became the first Canadian to advance to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, adding that she faced the double standard of the sports world head-on.

An entry on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation website wondered whether Smith's question was 'sexist or just plain stupid', while the National Post also questioned whether the courtside interview was tantamount to sexism, the report added.
