Captain Gopinath on Saturday announced that he was quitting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

He was one the star candidates of the AAP in the recently held elections, and of late, he had been speaking out against the party and some of the policies that it was pursuing.

He said he was having some differences with the AAP leadership, and added that though he had a lot of admiration for party founder Arvind Kejriwal, he could not reconcile with Kejriwal's decision to court arrest and deny payment of bond in connection with a defamation case filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
