The pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet may have reportedly hijacked the plane in an anti-government protest.

Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was a strong supporter of Malaysia's opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, who was jailed for homosexuality, which is illegal in the country.

Shah may have hijacked the plane just hours before flight MH370 vanished with 239 passengers and crew on board.

According to the Mirror, in a new twist, the wife and children of Shah moved out of the family's home the day before the plane disappeared.

Police raided the pilot's home in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and found that Shah, who has worked for Malaysia Airlines since 1981, had built a Boeing 777 flight simulator inside, the report added.
