ANI Baghdad [Iraq]

At least 11 people were reportedly killed and several others injured after a massive car bomb explosion ripped through a busy market area in the eastern part of Baghdad.

According to local media reports, the explosives-laden car went off at the wholesale Jamila Market in Baghdad's Shiite district of Sadr City.

The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack through its Aamaq news agency.

The blast comes at a time when Iraqi forces, backed by Hashd al-Sha'abi volunteer fighters, continue to make gains against Daesh in northern Iraq, pushing the terrorist to the verge of collapse in the country.

The bombing came as Iraqi forces are in final stages of recapturing the Tal Afar from ISIS.

The ISIS which emerged in Iraq in 2014, lost the northern city of Mosul, to Iraqi forces last month and now Tal Afar is its last strongholds in the country.
