English boxer Carl Froch knocked out his rival George Groves with a huge right hand in the eighth round of their rematch to erase the controversy of their first encounter, in front of a British-record 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Nottingham's Froch retained his IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles after beating Groves in their rematch.

Earlier, in November last year Froch had won in Manchester via a controversial ninth-round stoppage, but he left no room for debate this time as he floored the challenger towards the end of the eight round, rendering Groves unconscious, the BBC reported.

The referee started his count but soon called it off seeing that Groves was knocked out of his conscious, and while the challenger protested initially, there were no further complaints as two judges had Froch ahead at the time of the stoppage, the report added.

Froch, while taking part in his 12th straight world title fight, could now face former Olympic champion James DeGale in another huge domestic bout, the report further added.
