CBI files chargesheet against Gujarat's ex-IT officer

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against former Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, (Gandhinagar, Gujarat) for possession of alleged disproportionate assets.

According to media reports, the name of the officer is C.S. Bharti.

The CBI has also filed chargesheet against his wife and brother-in-law under Sections 109 of the IPC and Section 13 (2) r/w 13(1)(e) of the PC Act, 1988 and other substantive offences related to illegal income.

The CBI had conducted an investigation in which it was revealed that during the check period from 1.1.2002 to 25.3.2013, the officer had allegedly acquired the assets Rs. 1,63,12,939/- (approx) against a joint income of Rs. 1,16,05,314/- (approx) and incurred an expenditure of Rs. 1,08,09,344/- (approx).

 

It may be recalled that the investigating agency had earlier filed a chargesheet against said officer in a Rs. 30 lakh bribery case.
