ANI New Delhi [India]

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday ordered to close the case against Chartered Auditor Sanjay Bhandari in an alleged bribery case. Interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao ordered the closure of the case.

"After investigation and for want of evidence, the decision was taken by the earlier Director on March 3, 2018, for the closure of the case. Subsequently, the file was moved for re-investigation before the interim director," the CBI said.

"Giving an approval would have amounted to taking a policy decision which would have been against the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court hence the request for reopening was turned down," the CBI added.

The CBI in 2016, registered a case against nine senior Income Tax officials, including Delhi's principal commissioner of the Income Tax Department, S K Mittal, and three private persons, for allegedly indulging in corrupt practices. Chartered accountant Bhandari and his sons Shreyans and Divyang were also named as accused in the case.

The chartered accountant allegedly gave bribe to the Income Tax officials in order to help his clients.
