A law officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been sentenced to three years in jail by a Delhi court for demanding bribe from a person in return for favouring him in an inquiry against him.
The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Saket Courts, New Delhi convicted D.K.Srivastava, then Deputy Legal Advisor (DLA), CBI, ACB, Delhi and imposed a fine of Rs two lakh on him.
The CBI had registered a case on 11.05.2006 on a complaint against Srivastava alleging that he demanded a bribe of Rs. four lakhs from the complainant to show favour in the enquiry registered at ACB, CBI, Delhi.
A trap was laid by CBI and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. four lakhs from the complainant.
On conclusion of investigation, the charge sheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases on 11.07.2006 U/s 7 r/w 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the PC Act, 1988. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him U/s 7 r/w 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the PC Act, 1988 on 11.11.2013.
