The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved six laning of the Jalandhar-Amritsar section of National Highway-1 in Punjab, under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase II.
Around 20 kilometers road will be constructed on Engineering, Procurement and Construction basis, and the cost is estimated to be about Rs. 524 crore, including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation, and other pre-construction activities.
The project will expedite improvement of infrastructure in Punjab, and also reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Jalandhar and Amritsar section of National Highway-1 in Punjab.
The project covers Jalandhar and Kapurthala Districts of Punjab.
Development of this stretch will also help in uplifting the socio-economic condition of this region, and will also increase employment potential for local labourers.
