ANI California [United States]

Ever woke up one day to find your favourite celebrity handle following you? Well, in most cases it might not be the real celebrity who found you in a million of other fans.

As per a report from The New York Time, the other dark side is costing fans not only their money but also their relationships.

There are always indicators to check if the so-called celebrity account is genuine or fraudulent. However, on platforms such as Venmo there's no such verification tool available, Cnet reported.

The scams have been traced to groups in Nigeria and Ghana. Meanwhile, Facebook is using machine learning and facial recognition technology to identify and block such imposter accounts.
