The Central Railways on Friday said that they have started moving long distance trains which were stopped due to excessive rain and water logging on tracks in Mumbai, adding that the call on resumption of local trains would be taken after the high tide recedes.
"We have already started moving the long distance trains. There were around 20-25 long distance trains which were stranded from Kasara to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSTM) and Karjat to CSTM. Out of these, 17 are stranded between Kalyan to CSTM. We have started moving those long distance trains," Central Railway's Public Relations Officer (PRO) Narendra Patil told ANI.
"From here, we have started long distance trains which depart from CSTM. The first was the Geetanjali Express, which has already left from here. The tracks have been restored and the trains are running on these lines...As far as local trains are concerned, we will take a call [later]...a high tide is expected at 2.30 pm," he added.
Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit S. Shah on Friday declared a public holiday for all courts in the city due to the excessive rain, which has disrupted normal life.
