The central government on Monday approved assistance of over Rs 4,087 crore to seven states affected by drought.
A high-level committee, chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund after examining the proposals based on the report of the central which that visited the affected states.
The committee approved over Rs 1,177 crore for Rajasthan, Rs 1,773 crore for Tamil Nadu, Rs 280 crore for Andhra Pradesh, Rs 337 crore for Jharkhand, Rs 332 crore for Assam, Rs 170 crore for Himachal Pradesh and Rs 16 crore for Nagaland.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and senior officers of the ministries of home, finance and agriculture attended the meeting.
