Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that initiatives taken by the Centre for the welfare of farmers have started showing positive results.
Singh said this in a public meeting at Kandarpur in Odisha's Cuttack District.
He said agriculture scientists are working hard to improve the conditions of farming and farmers in the country and added that countless people have been already been saved from starvation through the use of sophisticated agricultural techniques.
Singh further said that NRRI scientists have developed CR Paddy 310 for the first time in the world which contains 11 percent protein while other species of rice generally contain protein only 6-7 percent.
He further stated that the NRRI is carrying out research on Doubled Haploid and added that they are developing a technique which will lead to farmers eventually not purchasing the seed of hybrid rice species from the market.
He said that through this technique the properties of hybrid rice will be transferred to other rice species.
