Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that initiatives taken by the Centre for the welfare of farmers have started showing positive results.

Singh said this in a public meeting at Kandarpur in Odisha's Cuttack District.

He said agriculture scientists are working hard to improve the conditions of farming and farmers in the country and added that countless people have been already been saved from starvation through the use of sophisticated agricultural techniques.

Singh further said that NRRI scientists have developed CR Paddy 310 for the first time in the world which contains 11 percent protein while other species of rice generally contain protein only 6-7 percent.

He further stated that the NRRI is carrying out research on Doubled Haploid and added that they are developing a technique which will lead to farmers eventually not purchasing the seed of hybrid rice species from the market.

He said that through this technique the properties of hybrid rice will be transferred to other rice species.

The minister further added that National Rice Research Institute is continuously trying to make rice farming beneficial and lasting.

He said that the NDA government has launched a number of programmes such as the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana to provide relief to the farmers when the monsoons are poor, or the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yoaja to promote bio-farming in the country and the Soil Health Card Scheme to provide farmers with Soil Health Cards in mission mode.

He also made a mention of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna, which provides relief to farmers inflicted with loss of crop damage.

Singh informed that digital technology will facilitate a sharing of links and thoughts on different points.
