Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that the Government of India is addressing the Naxal problem that has hit parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on a priority basis.
Addressing a press conference here today Rajnath Singh said, "As far as the Centre is concerned we want to address the Naxal problem on a priority basis. The state government of Jharkhand is working towards relieving people of Naxalism and we will extend all help required."
Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh had visited Naxal affected area Saranda in Jharkhand, where he appealed to Maoists to give up arms, saying, "We are ready for talks, but the Maoists must give up the path of violence."
He also recalled riding a motorcycle in Saranda, saying, "While I was visiting the area, the roads were bad so I was unable to travel by car and was asked to sit behind a bike instead. However, as a youth, I used to ride a bike myself, so I insisted on driving it myself."
Earlier, the Home Minister was seen interacting with tribal women of the Naxal affected area and distributing sarees and other items to them and their kids.
Rajnath Singh's visit was aimed at assessing in person preparedness of security forces fighting Maoist rebels.
