The government is considering a proposal to raise the eligibility criteria of income for people availing minority welfare schemes.
An official release said that at present, families with an annual income of less than Rs.40, 000 in rural areas and Rs.55, 000 in urban areas are eligible for the loans.
An official press release says, the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation will bring about significant changes in the lives of the poorest of the poor among minorities through its micro-finance and term loan schemes.
The NMDFC has so far disbursed about Rs. 371 crores in 2012-13, which has benefitted over one lakh beneficiaries.
Over nine lakh people belonging to minorities have benefited from the schemes since the inception of the NMDFC in 1994.
