ANI New Delhi [India]

Union Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that the Centre will reduce call rates for soldiers in wake of Diwali.

"Earlier soldiers had to pay monthly charge of Rs. 500 at the rate of Rs. five per call. Starting tomorrow, monthly charge of Rs. 500 will be completely discarded and soldiers will have to pay Rs. one per call instead of Rs. five via Digital Satellite Phone Terminal," Sinha said while addressing a press conference here.

He added that it is a Diwali gift from the Ministry to soldiers who stay away from their families.

The move was made to honour the sacrifices which the families of soldiers make by sending their loved ones to serve in the armed forces.
