Congress leader P.C. Chacko on Sunday reiterated that the alleged intrusion into Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's personal life was a case of espionage and demanded an explanation from the Centre regarding the same.
"What happened in Rahul Gandhi's place was espionage. This is not a police's job. Why it was done and under who, we want to know. We want an explanation from the Government," Chacko told ANI.
The Congress party had earlier expressed its outrage over a Delhi Police team visiting the Congress vice-president's office last week to make inquiry about his physical features.
Party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi had demanded an explanation from both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the incident.
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi, however, ruled out any malafide intention behind the inquiry and added that the men in uniform did not initiate this step on the Central Government's orders.
Bassi also said that it was important for the police to update information about the people who are more vulnerable to the Centre.
The incident has taken place at a time when the Congress vice-president is on a leave doing introspection for the party's dismal show in the Delhi Assembly polls. He is not even attending the crucial Budget Session of the Parliament that is underway.
